Melanoma Patient Support and Information
Getting the news that you or a loved one has been diagnosed with melanoma is something that no one can ever be prepared for. The fear and helplessness that one feels is overwhelming. Our foundation is a resource for those who are newly diagnosed, their caregivers or anyone searching for information.
The internet provides a wealth of information. There are many websites to visit for support. Trying to sort through all this information can be challenging. Two sites Dean and his family found to be extremely helpful are:
MPIP:Melanoma Patients Information Page - This site is sponsored by The Melanoma Research Foundation. Current melanoma patients of all stages and ages, their caregivers, researchers and medical professionals post messages and communicate through this bulletin board. You will find answers to any question that you can imagine. You will connect with people that are going through or have gone through the same thing that you are. You will learn about treatments, trials, the side effects of these treatments and trials and where to get them. You can get references for doctors right from their patients. This community of people follow each other through their triumphs and unfortunately tragedies... Many, many close friendships have been made by the people that frequent this site.
ClinicalTrails.gov - ClinicalTrials.gov currently contains 101,119 trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, other federal agencies, and private industry. Studies listed in the database are conducted in all 50 States and in 174 countries ClinicalTrials.gov receives over 50 million page views per month 65,000 visitors daily.
We want to offer assistance and hope. Our many survivors and caregivers are available to talk with you and offer their experiences, resources or simply a kind ear to listen.
