DHFMA HOSTED EVENTS:

The Annual Dean Hedstrom Foundation for Melanoma Awareness Pro-Am Golf Tournament and Live and Silent Auction is the DHFMA's largest annual fundraising initiative to raise awareness and funds in its fight against melanoma.

On a smaller scale, the Annual DHFMA Gross and Net Skins Challenge is a tribute to honor Dean's birthday. This special event is not as much a fundraiser as it is a venue to promote melanoma awareness and honor Dean's memory on his actual birthday. These events are hosted and organized by the foundation.

DHFMA COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENTS:

During the year, DHFMA participates in various local events that are not hosted or organized by the foundation. In 2010, the foundation participated in the 18th Annual "Golf Gets In Your Blood" Scramble hosted by the Florida Blood Services Foundation at East Lake Woodlands Country Club, Oldsmar, Florida. The foundation also participated in the 32nd Annual Chi Chi Charity Classic at the Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club, Clearwater, Florida. At these events we were able to distribute sunscreen samples, melanoma pamphlets, reusable UV detector bracelets and, with the help of Bay Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, P.A., provide free skin screenings.

  • In March 2011, DHFMA participated in the Florida's Largest Golf Show. Jim Turner of Turner media generously donated booth space at the 2011 Florida's Largest Golf Show. The DHFMA along with Bay Dermatology conducted 225 free skin screenings where three melanomas and numerous other Basal and Squamous skin cancers were found.
  • In April 2011, the foundation will participate in the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Academy. During this celebration, DHFMA will conduct the ribbon cutting ceremony as it presents to the general public the new CoverShots™ sun-shade structure that will be installed at the Academy in February 2011. DHFMA was able to donate this permanent structure with the funds raised from the First Annual Dean Hedstrom Foundation for Melanoma Awareness Pro-Am Golf Tournament and Live and Silent Auction.

DHFMA SATELLITE FUNDRAISING EVENTS:

The DHFMA Volunteer Fundraising Events are for individuals, groups, businesses, schools and clubs interested in raising funds for the Dean Hedstrom Foundation for Melanoma Awareness by holding events or participating in other established events. The proceeds benefit the programs of DHFMA.

These events can include golf tournaments, fun runs and walks, bicycle rides, silent auctions or other organized activities. We can assist event organizers throughout the entire process from concept through planning, including event day.
