The Dean Hedstrom Foundation for Melanoma Awareness (DHFMA) is committed to educating children about the dangerous effects of the sun and its UV rays. The proceeds raised from fundraising events like our annual golf tournament are used to provide distinctive products to protect children from the sun's damaging rays.
In one such program we install sun-shade structures at driving ranges that promote junior golf programs. In another program we distribute our Wear Your Awareness™ kits to youth organizations. These kits include sunscreen, protective clothing, and our unique UV-reactive bracelets. We want to teach children how to protect themselves while out in the sun and the importance of routine skin checks.
We will also continue to raise money for melanoma treatment research through the Dean Hedstrom Research Fund at UCSF. Several groundbreaking treatments are on the horizon. The DHFMA is hoping to help spur the efforts of researchers by helping them raise funds to get these treatments into a trial phase and ultimately, to the patients as quickly as possible.
