Skin Screening
Together with one of our sponsors, Bay Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, P.A., our foundation offers free skin checks at all of the events organized by DHFMA and most of the other events we participate in. Depending on the venue, we offer complete, partial or spot check skin screenings.
Skipping skin checks can be dangerous. Detection, diagnosis and immediate treatment are critical in skin cancer. Although skin cancers are among the simplest types of cancers to identify since they are visible on the outside of the body, the rates continue to rise. While non-melanoma cancers have a relatively good prognosis, melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, can quickly become lethal.
This is why regular skin checks and making an appointment with your physician, dermatologist or other healthcare provider is essential to catching skin cancer before it becomes melanoma. We encourage everyone over the age of 20 to get professionally checked at least every three years, and everyone over the age of 40 to get professionally checked at least once a year. As stated in skincarephysicians.com, if you spot a suspicious or changing lesion, seek medical attention promptly.
Please make sure to learn the ABCDE's of Melanoma and regularly check our events calendar for upcoming free skin screening dates and locations.
