UV Detector Bracelets
The federal government has classified UV radiation as a human carcinogen, along with other cancer causing agents such as asbestos, radon, and tobacco smoke. Even on a cloudy day or inside a vehicle, you are not protected from the effects of the sun. On the contrary, you are still being affected by UV radiation.
The Dean Hedstrom Foundation for Melanoma Awareness wanted to find a visual aid to remind us all that UV rays are real and constant. This led us to our reusable UV reactive bracelets. When the bracelets are introduced to UV rays they will turn purple. The higher the UV index, the darker the purple.
To properly use these bracelets apply sunscreen of at least 30 SPF daily, preferably a routine regimen, to your full body and bracelet. During usage, when the bracelet begins to turn purple again, this indicates sunscreen has worn off and it is time to reapply sunscreen to body and bracelet.
Effective life of bracelets:
- Constant wear, even while bathing or showering: approximately 8-12 weeks.
- Constant wear with removal during cleansing: approximately 12-24 weeks.
Donations for DHFMA reusable UV reactive bracelets are gratefully accepted. 100% of proceeds after expenses are allocated to our skin cancer and melanoma educational programs. At this time, the reusable UV reactive bracelets are available for a donation either on-line or by contacting us.
- 10 (ten) UV reactive bracelets - $20.00
- 100 (hundred) UV reactive bracelets - $100.00
